Dysphagia clinical

My clinical work as a speech-language therapist is organized from the department of Rehabilitation of the Radboud University Medical Centre, currently one day per week.
My primary expertise is assessment and management of oropharyngeal dysphagia as a consequence of stroke, head-neck cancer, mechanical ventilation, neuromuscular and neurodegenerative diseases, including dysphagia in Parkinson's disease.

To encourage the interdisciplinary approach of dysphagia in adults we published a manual for speech therapists, dieticians and nurses (in Dutch):

Kalf H, Rood B, Dicke H, van Keeken P.
Slikstoornissen bij volwassenen.Een interdisciplinaire benadering.
Houten: Bohn Stafleu Van Loghum, 2008.

On August 12, 2017 I had the honour to explain swallowing disorders cause by Parkinson's disease to a large groups of people with Parkinson's and their caregivers at the Education Centre of the Parkinson Voice Project in Richardseon, Texas.

In 2017 on the European Day of speech-language therapy (March 6) one of my patients and I were interviewed on national television. He suffered from Wallenberg's syndrome (lateral medullary infarct), but successfully recovered after intensive rehabilitation.
